Auto Body Repair in Van Nuys, CA

Dents, dings and damaged exterior panels at our Van Nuys shop, and how body work and paint go together. Start with a free estimate, in person or from photos.

What auto body repair covers

Our Van Nuys shop handles body repair on vehicles, from door dings and deep dents to full collision damage. In practice that means dent removal, work on affected exterior panels, and color-matched paint and body work so the repaired area can be finished.

If the damage came from an impact, our collision repair page covers that side of the work. This page is for the body itself: dents, panels, and the link between body work and paint.

Dents, panels and paint

A dent is often more than a change in shape. If the paint is cracked, scraped or chipped, the finish needs attention as well as the panel underneath, so body work and paint are best discussed together. Our auto body paint page goes into the finish side.

Which panels are affected, and whether a given panel can be repaired or needs a different approach, is decided after the damage is assessed. We do not make that call from a description, and this page does not promise a particular method.

If doors or panels no longer line up after an impact, that can point to more than a surface dent. See our frame repair page for what to report and how to ask for an inspection.

Useful things to note before you ask for an estimate:

  • Which panels are dented or marked, such as a fender, door or bumper.
  • Whether the dent is a small ding or a larger or creased area.
  • Whether the paint is cracked, scraped or chipped.
  • Whether the damage came from a collision or from something else, like a door ding or a minor bump.

How an auto body repair gets started

This is a suggested order for the first conversation, not a fixed repair schedule.

  1. Identify the affected areas

Walk around the vehicle and note each damaged panel. Photos of each area, taken in daylight if possible, make the conversation easier.
  2. Request an estimate

Use the estimate form or call (818) 472-9222. Estimates are free, in person or from photos. The form has no photo upload, so ask us how to send photos. Our estimates page lists what to have ready.
  3. Discuss body and paint scope

Ask which areas involve body work, which involve paint, and how the two relate on your vehicle. You will also choose insurance claim or out of pocket on the form.
  4. Agree on next steps

Ask what happens next and what could change the plan. Timing depends on damage and parts availability, so we do not promise dates up front.

Body repair and insurance claims

If the damage is part of an insurance claim, a free estimate is something you can share with your insurer, and we help customers navigate insurance claims alongside the repair. See our insurance claim assistance page.

Claim assistance is not a guarantee of approval or a direct relationship with every carrier. Whether a claim is covered is up to your insurance company. Smaller dents and dings may be something you choose to pay for yourself, and the estimate form lets you say which applies.

Auto body repair questions

What if my dent also has paint damage?

Tell us. Cracked, scraped or chipped paint is part of the damage, and the estimate can cover body work and paint together. Our auto body paint page has more on the finish side.

How do you decide which panels are affected?

By looking at the damage, in person or from your photos. A single dent can have effects beyond the spot you see, so the list of affected panels can change once the vehicle is looked at closely.

Can I send photos instead of coming in?

Yes, estimates are free in person or from photos. The estimate form has no photo upload, so ask us how to send them. Photos show visible damage only, and the final scope may change after an in-person look.

How is a dent different from a structural concern?

A dent affects a panel's surface and shape. Structural concerns involve the parts underneath that hold the vehicle together, and they cannot be judged from a distance. If you suspect more than a dent, see our frame repair page and mention it when you ask for an estimate.

How long will an auto body repair take?

Timing depends on the damage and parts availability, so we do not offer a number before the damage is known. Ask about timing when you get your estimate.
